Youth Service Funding
The Department of Education provides funding via the Education and Library Boards and the Youth Council for youth provision. This allows youth service providers to access funding that enables them to provide services for young people such as youth clubs, summer schemes and training opportunities.
From time to time individuals and groups have an idea for a programme or event which does not require long term funding, but which needs a little financial help to run.
This page provides information on sources of support that may be available to organisations or individuals who have an idea for a youth programme or event which is not suitable for Youth Council or Education and Library Boards youth service funding.

The Big Deal Small Grants Programme
The Big Deal Small Grants Programme is all about increasing children and young people’s participation as decision makers through projects in which children and young people plan and decide what it is they want to do, when, where and how!
The Big Deal Small Grants Programme provides funding for projects that help to make a difference in the lives of young people, others in their peer group, family, youth group, school, community or area.
Individuals and groups of children and young people aged 0-25 living in the north of Ireland can apply for an award from between £500 and £2,500.
To apply, your project idea should increase your participation as a decision maker and should also lead to outcomes such as increased health and well-being and/or increased achievement and learning.

King George VI Youth Awards
The King George VI Youth Awards are funded from investments made after the sale of the King George VI Youth Hall in May Street, Belfast. The King George VI Youth Council are responsible for the investments of 2 awards for young people – the Sports Awards and the Youth Awards. The Sports Awards are administered by the Sports Council and the Youth Awards are administered by Youthnet.
The Awards are open to young people aged 14-21 either individually or in a group. The maximum award is £500 and applications are considered by a panel which meets at least 4 times per year.

Youth Council Programme Support Funding 2009/10 –
Strand C: Community Relations and Cultural Diversity
This funding is available for enhancing the capacity and contribution of eligible Voluntary Youth Organisations to the building of a more peaceful and inclusive society and to further embed the principles of Equity, Diversity and Interdependence into youth work policy and practice.
Grant aid is available from £10,000 to £50,000 to assist eligible Voluntary Youth Organisations to deliver new and innovative programmes, policies and/or strategies.

Children and Youth Programme
The Children and Youth programme’s goals are to help more organisations offer high quality early education and out of school time learning opportunities; health care services; and family and mentoring services.
The programme supports learning opportunities that:
- prepare the whole child for adulthood;
- comprehensive, preventative healthcare for adolescents;
- mentoring programmes that foster personal responsibility and counsel that helps families understand and access benefits; and
- in the north and south of Ireland, early education and care to begin nurturing young minds.

The Atlantic Philanthropies
The Department of Education (DE) pays capital grants to voluntary youth organisations towards facilities for the Youth Service.
To be eligible your organisation must be registered with the local education and library board or receive funding from the Youth Council for Northern Ireland.
Grants assist with the costs of refurbishing premises, improving facilities or access for people with disabilities, bringing the property up to current health, safety and fire authority standards or towards child protection measures.
