Child protection advice - 3 March 2006
The protection of our children is of paramount importance. An urgent review of our current systems of vetting amd selecting staff has been undertaken. Four circulars outlining new advice and requirements that will further strengthen the current systems are available on our Child protection page.
The Department of Educations Pupil Support Unit takes the lead on issues affecting children and young people considered at risk of underachievement in education due to personal circumstances.
The unit has a strong network of contacts within the Education and Library Boards, particularly with the Education Welfare Service, Behaviour Support Teams and Education Psychology.
We also work in partnership with many voluntary organisations like, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), Save the Children, Barnardo's Young Parents Network, and Include Youth, to improve the life chances of disadvantaged young people.
