Statistics and Research Branch
Statistics and Research Branch provides the Department of Education with a professional service covering statistics, research and analysis.
The branch maintains a number of detailed education datasets, including data on school enrolments, and school leavers' qualifications and destinations. We can examine information related to education at various geogaphical levels, for example, Education and Library Board and District Council areas.
Information related to the above datasets is released via press release on a regular basis, although an ad hoc analysis service is also available. If you require information that is additional to that already published, you should contact us.
School census results, school leavers' survey results, teacher numbers, pupil:teacher ratios and participation rates are 'National Statistics'. This means they meet certain criteria in that they display integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality. All National Statistics are produced in accordance with the 'Framework for National Statistics' and comply with the principles enbodied in the 'UK Statistics Authority's Code of Practice for Official Statistics'. How they do this can be viewed through our Statement of Compliance. They are reviewed every five years for quality.
In addition to the above statistics, the branch also holds information on Transfer Procedure test results and Key Stage Assessment results.
Further statistics relating to Northern Ireland, and to education statistics in England, Scotland and Wales can be found using the appropriate links.
