The impact on staff
Understandably, staff right across the education sector are concerned about their jobs and future career paths.
While we will make every effort to ensure there is no need for compulsory redundancies, some jobs may be lost as administration is slimmed down.
A Public Service Commission has been set up to ensure the smooth transfer of staff to the new organisation in a fair and consistent manner. More information can be found on the Public Service Commission website.
Whatever is decided, we have put measures in place to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to safeguard jobs during the change process. For example, all public appointments made because of the review will be made under OCPA (Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments) code principles.
If you work in the Department of Education or in any of the stakeholder organisations supporting education, there may be some staff relocations as a result of the Review of Public Administration. Until a great deal more work has been done on the nature and structure of the new Authority it is impossible to comment further. Consultation with Trade Union side will be ongoing throughout the process.
