Burke Memorial prize for performance in GCSE examinations

The Department of Education administers the Burke Fund, a trust fund from which the payment of an annual prize is awarded to the best answerer in GCSE examinations taken in Northern Ireland.  The Fund was set up in memory of Thomas Henry Burke, Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, who was killed in Phoenix Park, Dublin, in 1882.

Every year the department awards £150 for the best performance at GCSE in the Summer examinations.
