The Northern Ireland Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity

The main objective of the programme is to move Northern Ireland to a state of sustainable prosperity in a competitive modern economy.

Its primary activities focus on:

  • the restructuring of its business;
  • key skills development of its people; and
  • maintaining a quality environment.

Building Sustainable Prosperity (BSP) addresses the wider developmental issues facing Northern Ireland.  It represents the convergence of the Programme for Government and the strategic objectives of the European Union for the application of Structural Funds.

The BSP Programme accounts for approximately two thirds of the total EU Structural Funds resources available to Northern Ireland amounting to €890m (£575m).  The Department of Education has responsibility for three measures under the programme:

The above measures comprise existing Government programmes and as such are not open to public applications.
