European funding
European Structural (EU) Funds provide grant aid for projects and programmes. Their purpose is to: -
- Encourage and facilitate economic regeneration;and
- Revive areas where the decline of traditional industries has caused serious social and economic problems
The Department of Education has been involved with the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and The Border Region of Ireland 2000-2006 (Peace II and Peace II Extension). Funding for project and programmes was through the:
- European Social Fund (ESF) and
- European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The Department had responsibility for 4 Measures under this Programme:
- Measure 2.1 - Reconciliation For Sustainable Peace (ERDF)
- Measure 2.2 - Developing Children and Young People (ESF)
- Measure 2.8 - Accompanying Infrastructure and Equipment Support (ERDF)
- Measure 5.5 - Education Cross Border School and Youth Co-operation (ESF)
