European funding

European Structural (EU) Funds provide grant aid for projects and programmes.Their purpose is to: -

• Encourage and facilitate economic regeneration;and
• Revive areas where the decline of traditional industries has caused serious social and economic problems

The Department of Education is involved with two EU programmes :-

The EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland (PEACE II)

The Northern Ireland Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity (BSP)

Funding for projects and programmes is through the:

• European Social Fund (ESF) and
• European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
