The Department of Education sponsors nine Non Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs) each of which is responsible for producing its own Publication Scheme. Their respective responsibilities together with contact names, addresses and direct website addresses are as follows:
Each of the five Education and Library Boards has a statutory responsibility to ensure that there are sufficient schools, in number and character, to meet the needs of its area; to provide all the finance for the schools under its management; and to equip, maintain and meet the running costs of maintained schools.

The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) is responsible for advising the Department and Education and Library Boards on matters relating to Catholic maintained schools, for the employment of teachers in these schools; and for providing advice and information to their trustees, Boards of Governors, principals and staff.

The Staff Commission for Education and Library Boards function is to oversee recruitment, promotion, training and terms and conditions of employment for non-teaching staff working in Education and Library Boards in Northern Ireland.

The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTC) is a statutory, independent body representing the professional interestsof teachers. It advises the department and employing authorities on issues such as training and career development, performance measurement and teaching standards.

Hard copies of the Scheme
Printed copies of this Publication Scheme are available at our office in Bangor.
The Publication Scheme can also be made available in a range of alternative formats upon request to the Departmental Information Manager.
In general, this Department does not intend to charge for the release of any information covered by its Publication Scheme, except for full Research Reports and certain HMSO priced publications, when payment will be required in advance. Information accessed and downloaded from our Internet site is, of course, free from any charge by the Department, although users will have to meet any charges by their Internet service provider.
The Department reserves the right to review the position regarding charging in light of the overall cost for supplying information.
