Literacy and Numeracy Taskforce

In February 2008 the Literacy and Numeracy Taskforce was established to address the numbers of young people who are leaving school with insufficient qualifications and skills.  These young people are disadvantaged when they seek to continue their education or enter the labour markets.

The purpose of the Taskforce is to finalise the revised literacy and numeracy strategy, ensuring it compliments existing and developing education policy, particularly the new school improvement policy, Every School a Good School. The Taskforce will make recommendations on the implementation and evaluation of the strategy.  This will take forward one of the Department’s commitments in response to the recent reports on standards of literacy and numeracy from the NI Audit Office and the Public Accounts Committee.
