Good Practice Initiative
The Good Practice Initiative commenced in 1999/00 and provides additional resources to schools which have demonstrated good practice in curricular or management innovations to allow its further development and dissemination to other schools. This initiave provides an opportunity for the development, recognition and dissemination of good practice in schools.
All grant-aided school excluding those currently participating in the School Support Programme (SSP) or those which have exited the programme within the last two years may bid for these resources.
The aim is to identify schools that have developed an initiative from within their own resources rather than with external support. Initiatives funded with external support such as the Belfast Regeneration Office (BRO), Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (SSPPR) or Interface funds will be given a lower priority against the selection criteria. All applications for support must include evidence of exceptional or distinctive good practice and/innovation.
Bids are made to the local Education and Library Board, which consider bids and allocate resources to schools. A condition applicable to all recipients is that schools must agree to work with CASS in the wider dissemination of good practice with other schools.
In 2005/06 applications from schools will be considered against the following themes:
- self-evaluation: the effective use of data and other evidence to support self-evaluation and target-setting
- collaborative themes - joint approach involving either a number of schools or schools and further Education and/or Alternative Provision
- improving language and listening skills among young children
- managing children with challenging behaviour and improving children's self-esteem
- supporting children/families with SEN
- developing effective links with parents, in particular links which equip parents to support their childs learning at home.
