School management
The majority of grant aided schools in Northern Ireland have fully delegated budgets. Their overall financial allocation is managed by the schools' boards of governors.
School governors have to ensure that the education provided at the school meets the statutory requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. They also manage the school's finances and employment of teachers and have responsibility for a wide and varied range of management issues.
The day to day management of each school must be conducted in accordance with
- the provisions of the Education Orders;
- the terms of the scheme of management;
- any regulations or orders made by the Department of Education;
- any rules or directions of the Education and Library Board.
