School Holidays 2009/10
Fixed school term dates for pupils in Northern Ireland are
- Schools start back after summer holidays on 1 September 2009
- Halloween 29 - 30 October 2009
- Christmas/New Year 23 December 2009 - 1 January 2010 (inclusive)
- Mid-term 15-16 February 2010
- * St Patrick's 17 March 2010
- Easter 1 - 9 April 2010
- May Day 3 & 31 May 2010
- Summer holiday begins 1 July 2010
* Not all schools close on St Patrick's Day and 31 May
These dates represent when schools are closed to pupils. However, teachers must attend school on five of these dates for Training and Development purposes.
Schools have discretion to close for up to five optional days. Optional days are intended to cover closings throughout the year in special circumstances, for example death of a person connected with the school, need to move premises, start of building work, church holy days.
Therefore, optional days are likely to differ from school to school.

- Mid-term 12 - 13 February 2009.

- Easter 10 - 17 April 2009.
- May Day 4 & *25 May 2009.
- Summer holiday begins 1 July 2009.
