Publication Scheme Section 4
This section covers:
Copyright
The Department of Education is a Crown Body and the information we produce is subject to Crown copyright, which is administered by the Office of Public Sector Information. The material listed in this Publication Scheme is Crown copyright unless stated otherwise.
The copyright in some of the material that may be found in this Publication Scheme has been waived, meaning you can reproduce this material freely. Categories of material for which copyright has been waived include:
- government press notices
- legislation and explanatory notes on the legislation
- ministerial speeches
- consultation documents
- documents featured on official websites (except where expressly indicated otherwise)
- headline statistics and unpublished public records
For other types of material, however, the supply of documents under Freedom of Information does not give you, or your organisation who receives them, an automatic right to re-use the documents in a way that would infringe copyright, for example by making multiple copies, publishing and issuing copies to the public.
Brief extracts of any of the material included in this Publication Scheme may be reproduced:
- under the fair dealing provisions of the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 (sections 29 and 30)
- for the purposes of research
- for non-commercial purposes
- for private study, criticism, review and news reporting.
Details of the arrangements for re-using Crown copyright material can be found by contacting the Office of Public Sector Information.

Requests for Information
Most of the of information in the Publication Scheme is available on our website, which supports a search facility to help you find what you are looking for. Where Internet access is impossible or impractical or information is required in paper format, you should direct your request to the Departmental Information Manager, who will assist with enquiries on how to request or access information held by this department.
Certain very large documents or manuals may be made available for viewing by arrangement at one of our offices, however where practicable we will supply sections of these documents by other means to meet specific needs.
Complaints
If you wish to make a complaint about the Publication Scheme or lack of access to information held by the department you should contact the Departmental Information Manager who with a senior officer from the business area concerned, will investigate the complaint and where practicable respond within 15 working days.
If you are not satisfied with the response you can write to the Head of Equality and All Ireland Directorate in the department who will investigate the complaint.
In all cases your complaint will be:
- acknowledged within three days,
- investigated thoroughly and
- treated confidentially
If we have not resolved the matter to your satisfaction you can refer your complaint to the Information Commissioner, who is completely independent from the department. The Information Commissioner will normally expect you to have used our complaints procedure before considering the complaint.
Comments
From time to time the department will review this Publication Scheme and would welcome your views on ways to improve it. If you have any comments or suggestions to make about the presentation, structure or content of the Scheme, please forward these to the Departmental Information Manager.
