1999/22 Teachers' Pay Structure from 1 September 1999 (PDF 95 KB)
This circular provides guidance on the changes to the teachers' pay structure from September 1999. It provides for new arrangements for Principals' pay and explains the assimilation process for existing principals, the determination of Individual School Ranges (ISRs) and the removal of points 0 and 0.5 from the teachers' pay scale. It also sets out the procedures for calculating the ISR for the principal group (see also Circular 2003/05).

The Department of Education, in exercise of the powers conferred onit by Articles 17A(1), (2) and (2A) and 134(1) of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(a) and Article 31(2) and (3) of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989(b) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, and after consulting as required by Article 31(4) of that Order, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1999/09 Pastoral Care: Guidance on the Use of Reasonable Force to Restrain or Control Pupils (PDF 186 KB)
This circular provides clarification and guidance on the use of reasonable force, by teachers and other authorised staff to restrain or control pupils in certain circumstances. It gives guidance about who can use reasonable force, when it is appropriate to use it, and the procedures for recording incidents where reasonable force was used. The circular also advises that schools should have a written policy about the use of reasonable force which should be made known to parents.
