The Teachers Pay and Conditions of Service Inquiry - Interim Report, Principal and Vice-principal pay (PDF 1.14 MB)
This report recommended that Principals and Vice-principals salary ranges related to school size and type. The recommendations were implemented during Spring 2003 and resulted in arrears payments to a significant number of Principals and Vice-principals, who were previously being paid at a pay point lower than the minimum of the pay range recommended by the Inquiry.

The final report, issued in June 2003 and considered the salary and conditions of service for all teachers. Eligible teachers progressed from point 1 to point 2 of the Upper Pay Scale from 1 September 2003, and from point 2 to point 3 from September 2005, following agreement on a Performance Review and Staff Development scheme (PRSD), which commenced in schools in September 2005.

Part 2 of the report covers workload/bureaucratic burden issues and makes a number of recommendations, which if implemented, would place significant demand upon the education budget. There is, however issues in the report that can be addressed through alternative and innovative ways of working. The Teachers Salaries and Conditions of Service Committee (Schools) considered what could be progressed, without additional funding, based on the benefits to children. The Northern Ireland Teachers Health and Wellbeing Survey PDF 1.49 MB
The survey publishes the results of a questionnaire which all serving teachers  had the opportunity to complete to identify issues that may impact on their health and well-being and, where appropriate, to develop strategies to encourage healthier working practices.

The Teachers Health and Wellbeing Newsletter December 2003 PDF 258 KB.
The newsletter was produced by the Health and Wellbeing Strategy Group and provides information on support services available to all teachers and on the 'Health Promoting Schools' initiative.
