Integrated schools
An integrated school is a school which contains a reasonable number of pupils from both the Protestant and the Catholic communities.
There are at present 61 grant-aided integrated schools in Northern Ireland (with a total enrolment of over 18,000 pupils – over 5 percent of total pupils), made up of 38 grant-maintained integrated schools and 23 controlled integrated schools.

In 2009 the Minister has approved three development proposals for the acquisition of Controlled Integrated status for Fort Hill Primary School, Lisburn, Parkhall College, Antrim and Crumlin Primary School. Both Fort Hill Primary School and Parkhall College have officially transformed since September 2009 with Crumlin Integrated Primary School acquiring controlled integrated status from September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.
