Disposal of school records

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) has requested a change to the Schools’ Disposal of Records Schedule, in connection with Pupil Attendance Registers. Please see revised version below. Previous guidance required that a school should retain registers for 10 years from the date the register ceased to be used, and then destroyed.
New PRONI guidance requires registers to be retained for 10 years from the date the register ceases to be used, and then offered to PRONI for permanent preservation.
Please ensure that any Disposal of Records Schedule currently in place in your school takes account of this important change. Any register data in C2K MIS System (SIMS) will be managed by C2K.
The revsied schedule is available in word format to download and personalise for your school. Any queries regarding completion of this schedule should be addressed by the FOI Records Officer within your employing authority.
