Food in Schools Policy - Consultation
The Department of Education and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety have published consultation proposals in relation to their proposed Food in Schools policy.
The consultation exercise sought views on the draft policy which sets out the overall aims and objectives in relation to food in schools and describes the range of strategies and plans that are being put in place to deliver improved nutrition for our school children.
The consultation exercise closed on 11 December 2009 and the responses are currently being considered. The outcome of these considerations will appear here in due course.

Policy Screening Form
Under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 the Departments are required to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity. In order to determine whether an Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) is necessary all policies must be screened.
The results of the Department of Education’s screening process indicated that the policy does not need to be subjected to a full equality impact assessment. The screening document is available for viewing:
