Education Minister visits Templepatrick Primary School

Education Minister, John O'Dowd paid a visit to Templepatrick Primary School in Co. Antrim today.

During his visit the Minister was given a tour of the school facilities and had the opportunity to chat to Primary Four pupils who recently visited Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The Minister said: “I would like to thank the Principal, Ray Cromie and everyone at Templepatrick Primary School for their warm welcome here today.

“During my tour of the school I met with many of the pupils and it was clear just how much they are enjoying their educational experience. As well as learning through the core curriculum I am aware that the school also has a strong tradition in music and sport and a wide range of extra-curricular activities are available for the children. These include football, choir, orchestra, hockey, mini-rugby, netball and cycling proficiency.

“The value of educational visits is also recognised and opportunities are taken to enhance the experience of the pupils through both day visits and residential trips.

“In fact, just last week some of the Primary Four pupils had the opportunity to visit Stormont where they were given a tour of the building and heard about the work that is done there. Who knows we may have some of the MLA’s of the future in our midst!”

The Minister also had the chance to see some of the pupils rehearsing for the school’s Christmas shows. He said: “Visiting schools in the run up to Christmas is a particularly enjoyable experience. As well as the usual classes and extra-curricular activities there is always an extra buzz of excitement as the children prepare for Christmas with carol services, school shows and nativity plays. I had the opportunity to see some of the pupils rehearsing for their school show today. Their enthusiasm and talent was clear to see and I have no doubt that their parents and family members will be very proud of them.”

In conclusion the Minister said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Templepatrick Primary School today and I want to commend the Board of Governors, the Principal, Mr Cromie and all his staff for their continuing good work. I wish everyone involved with Templepatrick Primary School every success in the future.”
