O’Dowd approves change to special educational needs provision at St Malachy’s Primary School, Castlewellan

Education Minister, John O'Dowd, has approved a proposal to redesignate three moderate learning difficulty classes at St Malachy's Primary School, Castlewellan to learning support classes
~ Monday, 17 December 2012

The proposal will help to ease the pressure for places at learning support classes and will result in reduced travel times for a number of children.

Commenting on the decision, the Minister said: “The new facilities at St Malachy’s Primary School will enable children to access educational provision suitable for their needs within acceptable travel times as specified in the Sustainable Schools Policy.

“This approach is in line with my Department’s aim of educating children with special educational needs within mainstream settings where possible, ensuring they benefit both educationally and socially.

“I wish the South-Eastern Education and Library Board and the school the very best for the future as they work to establish the new learning support classes.”
