Speaking after the event the Minister said: "It has been an honour to attend the prize giving here in St Patrick’s High School. The awards presented are in recognition of the hard work and commitment of the pupils, supported by their teachers and families, over the past year and they should all be very proud of their achievements.
"Academic results are important and I encourage all young people to work hard and dedicate themselves to their studies. However, I also believe that a well rounded education is about much more than academic achievements, so it is good to see that the school also offers a wide range of sporting, musical and other extra-curricular activities.
“St Patrick’s has recently achieved Bronze level Investors in People accreditation. I know that the Principal, Pat McGuckian, her staff and the school governors are committed to building on the school’s existing reputation and have a vision for the school to become a world-class centre of excellence. They clearly have a strong foundation on which to build and I commend all involved in this fantastic achievement.”
In conclusion the Minister said: “I want to once again congratulate the young people on their achievements and wish them all every success in the future. Finally I would like to thank everyone at St Patrick’s for their warm welcome this evening and wish the staff, pupils and the entire school community a very Happy Christmas.”
