The move follows the Executive’s agreement to the Education Bill which will establish the Education and Skills Authority.
Mr O’Dowd said: “The sectoral support body for controlled schools will play a vital role in our reformed education administration. On behalf of the interests of controlled schools, and alongside sectoral support bodies for Irish-medium, integrated and Catholic schools, the body will provide representation and challenge to the Department of Education and the new Education and Skills Authority. I am grateful to those nominees who have accepted membership of the working group. My officials have already begun engagement with the group and I look forward to working with them and assisting them as they take their task forward.”
The initial membership of the working group is:
- Mr Uel McCrea, formerly Principal of Ballyclare Secondary School.
- The Reverend Trevor Gribben of the Transferors’ Representative Council.
- Mrs Valerie Campbell, Principal of Dungannon Primary School.
- Mr David Canning, Principal of Strabane Primary School.
- Mr Stephen Black, Principal of Antrim Grammar School.
- The Reverend Ian Ellis of the Transferors’ Representative Council.
